It's obnoxiously unproductive to reply on beta groups. so reply here:
It looks like people want to merge these general existing things:
1, Forums on the net are too scattered, requiring too many logons. usenet is the largest reasonably organized, fast,
accessible discussion area on the net. so begin with usenet as base for improvement.
combine best scoring/plonk/watch features of news-readers. Add new features (Maybe someone replying knows of an 'avant'
reader that is pushing *usable* (not prettifying) features.
I guess moz tbird's UI is customizable, but customization is xul, therefore not the same as applying the js and css to webpages?
2, on http, customizing/filtering by js/css:
already we have to fix google's groups. maybe one of the greasemonkey js can filter, add the best of the old, and add new
features (I'll post some ideas somewhere)
existing examples:
Butler/divinetomark (example of greasemonkey script)
customizegoogle (unfortunately discusses in beta groups!)
filters, proxomitron as example, to clean crap out of links and scripts.
3, the generic/mob/cliche/pigeonhole rating-classification feature "vs" "anonymity"/privacy.
Avoid cookies, or logging on? (beyond as needed to get onto usenet.) I'd like to see links to already thought-out ideas,
problems.
existing examples of rating (with cookies), no doubt other people know of others:
slashdot
craigslist forums
but with filter/css/js overlay type extensions (MozSpeak) there's no reason why rating rules etc, can't be stored on user's
computer, *without any need* for cookies.
4, If 'community/mob rating' customizing cannot be done almost completely on user's computer, then third party sites
(kind of like chained proxies?) might be able to do it?
