wave file cannot play in powerpoint presentation

I have a wave format file that I would like to insert on a power point
presentation. The wave file plays fine by itself on Windows Media player. I
have Office XP professional with OS Windows XP Home edition. I inserted the
wave file on powerpoint by INSERT--> Movie and Sound --> Sound from file .
It does NOT play on either by right click on the speaker symbol on the editor
view or double click on the slide show. Any suggestion is appreciated! THANK
YOU in advance!

Go to Start > Run and type mplay32.exe to open the MCI player. Open the Wav and
click on the Play icon. Does it play?
