Want to sync Live mail, iPhone, and mail on PC

I want to synch email, contacts, and calendar on my iPhone and PC just like
it did with my blackberry, but I want to use a live mail account (or gmail or
other provider if Live just won't work). How do I do this?

I have an iPhone 2G (currently on OS2 which I'll update to OS 3.1) with the
data plan. I have a Live mail account that I'll be using if possible. I
currently have the updated contact list and calendar file that I want to use
in Outlook 2003 on my XP computer. I'd like to continue using Outlook on the
PC if possible, but want to migrate to using my notebook (that I plan to
upgrade from Vista to Win7). I have Office 2007 on the Vista machine but may
switch back to Office 2003 - I just hate the new toolbar and can't seem to
find what I need in reasonable time. I want the messages to dowload to the
hard drive on the notebook for archival.

I know I should upgrade the Vista machine to Win7 before I start trying to
sync these 3 devices/areas. Once that is accomplished, can I sync the
notebook (outlook email and calendar and contacts) with the iphone (email,
contacts, calendar) and Live (email, contacts, calendar). Will read email
show as "read" on the other devices at next logon? Will calendar updates
work properly from any location and propagate to the other devices? Same for
Contacts: can I change one anywhere and have it properly update at the other
two locations?

Can it be done? How?

Done properly, yes, updates will be available online, on the computer, or on
the device. The iphone forums at apple may better able to help you -
everyone there uses iphones and many use outlook. Apple's iPhone forum for

Pardon me while I pick myself off the floor. I'm gob-smacked that a MS
techie told me that Apple would bette solve my tech problems. I hope the
apple commericial guys aren't reading these posts. Let me express my idea
differently:

I had hoped for some guidance to accomplish a multi-device synchronized
communication system from the manufacturer of the (1) OS (WinXPPro) of the
mahince that currently hosts the (2) Outlook 2003 where the contact file
(carefully updated the 1000 contacts to remove dupes, etc) and the calendar
file reside, and from the manufacturer of the (3) OS (Vista - soon to be
Win7) of the machine that I want to host the (4) Outlook 2007 email,
calendar, and contacts (all for backup and archival purposes) , and from the
manufacturer/owner of the (5) web email app that I am using and want to
continue to use as the central point in my mulitple device information system
so that I can also share the contacts, email, and calender on the (A) smart
phone that I have. Note that I've identified 5 Microsoft products (4 that I
own-and most of these through several upgrade cycles) and 1 Apple product.

Is Apple the best source of information in this situation since the iPhone
is one small part of this system?

Non one here is an "MS techie". We're all just people who use Outlook. A few
of us (and I'm not one) also use iPhones. Sice Outlook is completely passive
in the sync process and since Apple supports the sync software, it's best you
ask there. They know better how the sync software works because they wrote
it. Microsoft didn't.

Outlook doesn't have a "contact file" or "calendar file". All of Outlook's
data is kept in one data store, either an Exchange mailbox or a PST. All
mail, contacts, calendar, tasks, journal, notes, etc. is in that same data
store.

None of the Microsoft products participate in the sync process, however.

OK. Thanks Brian and Diane. I wasn't implying that you worked for MS, just
that you probably like me are more MS tech based than mac-based.

Looks like here the focus is very narrow on Outlook, instead of messaging in
general using Outlook. I suppose you folks are pretty well overwelmed with
help requests, so I can understand. I'll give the Apple site a try.

I'm having a similar problem. When I connect my iPhone to my laptop (Windows
7 and Outlook 2007) the only information from my iPhone showing up in my
contacts is the email addresses. Home and business addresses and phone
numbers do not transfer, or else I don't know where to look.
