Want to change VISTA to XP

I have purchased an Inspiron 1720 from Dell that arrived with VISTA on it. I
want to change this to XP so that I can use ProTools software. Dell is
telling me that there is not an audio driver available for XP. However, I
have a friend who is using his laptop with XP and this software operates fine
on his computer. Any input would be appreciated.

Is your friend also running an Inspiron 1720 from Dell?

Yes. The drivers are for particular computers.

Of course it matters, just because your friend has a 17" laptop does not
mean that it has the same hardware as yours.

You have to look before you buy, or correctly configure your purchase.
Dell supplies laptops with winxp
But thats all no good now, you are stuck with Vista

One option is to disable the internal audio in the CMOS, and install a
new sound card that has XP drivers (most do).

OK. The system already has this audio driver on it. Is this to mean that the
driver would be compatible if I changed the OS to XP? Since the OS list on
the download includes the 1720 and XP.......Thanks for YOUR help.
