Can I run memory diagnostics..

.... on a Dell laptop using anything but the Dell diagnostics?

Does anyone have an old "Drivers and Utilities" disc that would work
with an Inspiron 5100? I'd be happy to pay shipping and "handling."

Dell showed me how to download CDD1236.exe which I unzipped and copied
to my CD drive. It contains Delldiag.exe and a bunch of other stuff. But
when I run diagnostics I'm still stopped by a request to load the "Drivers
and Utilities" CD.

Dell won't talk to me anymore, since someone finally discovered I don't
have a support contract.

You can use Memtest86+ :

http://www.memtest.org/

You create a boot CD to start from and it will automatically start the
testing process. If you have more than one stick of memory, testing one at a
time will make it a little easier to find a bad one.

There are a few places on the internet that have the D&U CD's for
sale/download. I've never had a need to use one of those suppliers so I
can't say how good they are.

As others have said, Memtest86+ is the best solution.

Even without a support contract, you should be able to download the
drivers individually from the Dell website.
