Nope Firefox uses XPCOM which allows control outside of the browser,
just like ActiveX. Under IE, this can be blocked and it is by default.
Under Firefox, it can't be turned off without hacking your OS!
Yes I too sometimes fire up my Linux machines. And I am applauded how
little Linux users knows about security. The Asus EeePC comes with
Xandros for example. And they have sold millions of these things. Yet
not one of them has a simple firewall. Thus a hacker anywhere in the
world can see and they are free to hack right into your Linux.
Worse, Linux security updates usually breaks things.
None have broken my install and I've updated since 6.10, NOT clean
install each new version. Oops.
So many users don't
bother.
LOL! How can you miss the orange icon that appears when they are
updates? Are you talking about blind users?
And remember rootkits have been around for Linux since day one.
No access to root makes root kitting an impossible proposition.
So much for Linux security, eh?
So much for you proving how clueless you are.
No wonder Linus Torvalds (the father of
Linux) admitted in his book, that he uses Windows. What a surprise, not.
BULLSHIT.
You really don't know what you're talking about but that doesn't stop
you from drooling it all over the place. Ubuntu comes with a firewall by
default and with ports closed by default. Add a Nat router's firewall
and you're set to go.
Here, take a trip to this web site and see how many of your precious
Windows ports are open to the Net. With Ubuntu, all are closed or stealth.

Do all the ports, not just the common ones.
