Wake up WIFI

I am currently using a WIFI connection to share files
between a laptop and desktop. If the desktop is on Stand
By then the laptop cannot access it's files. Is there
any way the laptop can wake up the desktop when
attempting to access it's folders?

For Xp:
Start->Control Panel-> System-> Network adapters-> YourAdapter->
Properties->Power Management.
