W32.Swen--Turn off system restore

I am trying to turn off windows xp system restore, but
cannot using the methods described. should I continue
trying to remove W32.Swen.A@mm without turning systems
restore off?

Safe mode also gives blocking message...cannot get to the tab. Tried
many times. Has worked before the virus.

Yes do. You will not get it out of restore points, but it could only do
any harm there if you go back to one of the points concerned.

Once you have the system clean, make a fresh clean restore point
manually (at All Programs - Accessories - System - System Restore) then
at same place - DIsk Cleanup, do a clean up, including the 'More Option'
to delete all but the most recent Restore point. And the backed up Swen
will vanish with it.
