w32.Randex.gen virus

While I was downloading Windows XP Home Edition updates
on May 23rd from the Microsoft website, my computer
became infected with this virus, subsequently detected
during a complete virus scan using Norton Antivirus,
which was unable to fix the problem. Norton Antivirus
reported that the virus path and filename is
C:\WINDOWS\System32\navmgrd.exe. I followed the
instructions on the Symantec website for resolving this
problem; however, it has not worked. If anyone has been
able to resolve this issue, would you please share your
solution?

I just removed w32.randex.gen, I followed the instuctions on"www.symantec.com/securityresponse" for this virus (terminate the service, remove registry keys and remove files by that name). It kept coming back. I figured out that it was also set up in my scheduled tasks to run three times a day. So, no matter how much I removed it, it would come back. I stopped the process' and that seems to have helped. One note though. My computer was also showing this virus under musirc4.72.exe also. I had to remove these files and stop this process the same way as the other. I'm assuming that they are one in the same, but not sure.( I could find little info about musirc4.72.exe other than it being a big problem for me. I hope this helps you.
