Hello.

A Windows 2K workstation keeps hanging showing CPU usage as 100%, the
process using up 90-100% of the CPU is "cisvc.exe" this exe is located in
the system32 folder. Anyway I noticed whilst watching this that when another
process wanted to use the CPU obviously with a higher priority it would
dropto say 60% usage whilst the other more important process would use the
40%. When I have tried to lower the priority of the process I am old that
access is denied despite being the admin.

Does anyone know what cisvc.exe is and what exactly it does?

and

How would I lower the priority of this process?

Help would be much appriciated. Thanks in advance.

It's the Indexing Services. It should run occasionally, but not all
the time. Check for viruses and also check the Microsoft Web Site.

Cheers,

If you don't want it interfering with your work you can shut it off in Start | Settings | Control Panel | Administrative Tools | Services | Indexing Service | right-click and choose Stop.
