W2k Slow Logoff

H

Hank

Does anyone know why is it that when I Logoff or do a
Shutdown on my Windows 2000 (Pro) PC it takes a long time
(over a 1 min) to close.
It seems to be delayed when the dialog box indicates,
"Please wait", Saving Settings.

Thanks

I'm not technically certain, but a helpdesk once told me (based upon the
same question) that the longer it's been between boots or the more
things you've done (applications ran), then the more open threads that
are out there in your VM and all of this stuff has to get closed and
cleaned up. My take on it is that "c'est la Win2000."

This still happens even if I do not open any applications.
It is alot faster at logoff when I login as a different
user.

I read in a Microsoft Article 828153 that I need the
updated SPOOLSV.EXE (version 5.0.2195.6815).

Thanks

Does anyone know where I can download this SPOOLSV.EXE
version?

Or am I not going in the right direction? Please help.
Thx

I will ALWAYS like any techsupport... It sounds like those poor guys still
use abacus.
Bad drivers, misconfigured OS and software, virus, spyware... all this stuff
increases a shutdown significantly.
And only when everything is fine, you can adjust
HKCU/ControlPanel/Desktop/WaitToKillAppTimeout, HungAppTimeout,
AutoEndTasks, and HKLM/SYSTEM/CCS/Control/WaitToKillServiceTimeout.
