can the dns server be setup for external dns service (e.g.
ns1.mydomain.com) for my own internet domain name and also my internal
dns-active directory integrated server (e.g. internal.mydomain.net)

Any directions would help.

You'd need two DNS servers for this - it really isn't all that useful for
small shops to run their own public DNS, esp. as your ISP or registrar is
likely to have a better infrastructure, and probably does it for free
