W2k disk space problems

I have a problem - my W2k main folder is now some 1,37 GB large and I don't
know how to make it smaller. I deleted the uninstallation files for the
updates, temporary files and such, but it's still big as hell. And when I try
to run the disk cleaning application (rightclk on the system disk and choosen
from the menu), it says that it's scanning and counting the free space and
the progress bar doesn't even appear for an hour (that's when I switch it
off).

Aside from that, are the files in the hidden 'installer' folder necessary?
And the ones in 'Windows Update installation files'? 'Serivepackfiles'?
'registrated packages'?

Thanks in advance.

Your best bet is to buy a larger disk. Even an old 4 GByte disk
would do very nicely, and your computer dealer would probably
sell it for a very low price.

I have to disks - 13.7 and 10.4 GB. W2k is on the first one, on a 3.43 GB
partition, so I would rather like to know what can i delete from the system
folder.

I'm trying to work out what your problem is. If Win2000
is installed on a 3.43 GByte partition, and if you have
1.37 GBytes of free space, then you have 40% free space.
This is quite reasonable.

If you insist then you can delete the various upgrade
installation folders. They are only required if you wish
to uninstall a given update. You can also move the paging
file to a different drive.

Er... You didn't seem to read my first post right: 1.37 GB is the size of my
system folder.

That means you can't uninstall any hotfixes, note. Better to move them to
another drive/burn a CD or something.

Try disabling the "compress old files" feature of Disk Cleanup in the
registry:

I'd be uninclined to mess with those. Are you running out of space on your C
drive / system volume?

1.37 GB for a Windows 2000 WINNT folder doesn't sound terribly big. Mine
is 1.89 GB. There are probably odds and ends that you could remove, but
it's going to be a lot of work tracking them down for a very small
payback.

I just checked the machine I use at work, which was rebuilt on December 2,
and WINNT there is 1.70 GB. I don't think you're going to get yours much
smaller than it is now.
