Best Way to Repair a W2K-Pro Installation

With W2K-Pro as originally installed (but updated to SP4) on a Dell 933
mHz 4100, I am getting error messages about missing files. What is the
best way to repair such an installation?

Via Google, I find that one gets pushed toward things like a tool called
RegCure and along with more manual methods from a site called 'Windows
Reinstall' involving use of an Emergency Repair Disk (which I have made)
and my original W2K-Pro disk from Dell.

If someone with lots of W2K-Pro experience could point me toward a
preferred approach, I would be deeply appreciative. While I go back to
the MS-DOS days, I consider myself only moderately knowledgeable about
the intricacies of NT and its offspring like W2K-Pro and XP. Thanks, in
advance, for comments and/or advice or for any direction to good
published material.

Dont go anywhere near any registry cleaners, they cause more problems than
they cure.
Depends whether you have a genuine win2k cd or merely a restore cd

If its a genuine win cd, you will need to create a slipstreamed cd
containing the latest sp

You can also try the system file checker see win help (scannow)
It would also be good to give an example of some missing files given in the
msg

Try: SFC /SCANNOW

Execute the command in the Start menu Run box. If that doesn't fix
things do an in-place upgrade.

Thanx to both DL and John John for the good advice and suggestions. For
reasons that are unclear, SFC /SCANNOW didn't work.

Accordingly, I did a manual repair job with the aid of my original Dell
Windows 2000-Professional disk and the Emergency Repair Disk I had
previously made. Then I ran the SP4 upgrade, the Post-SP4 Roll-up, and
just finished installing the IE6 upgrade, all previously downloaded and
saved to CD-R. A tentative check seems to indicate that things are
working properly.

Well, I spoke too soon. Other than some minor resets, I have an
unexpected problem. Windows Update refuses to even start and error
#0x800706D3 code is returned. It will probably be best if I start a new
thread.
