W2k direct connection problem

H

Hmmm...

I'm trying to connect my laptop to my desktop using direct connection (LPT1)
just to move some files around. Both systems are running Win2k. I get the
connection but on the host it says "Unauthenticated User" in the Network and
Dial-up Connections window.

On the host machine, I can see both the host and guest computers in
"Computers Near Me", but when I click on the guest computer, I get the
message: "\\guest_computer is not accissible. The network path was not
found".

On the guest machine, when I try to use "Computers Near Me" I get the
following error message:
"Workgroup is not accessable. The list of servers for this workgroup is not
currently available."

What am I doing wrong?
thanks in advance

I have not used Direct Connect in ages but here are a couple things to try.

Make sure you have the same exact logon/password on each computer that you are
logging on to try and access data OR enable the guest account on the target computer
which I normally do not suggest but you are just connecting the two computers and if
it does work disable the guest account when done. You can use lusrmgr.msc to open
local computers and users and the guest account will be in the users folder. Also see
the link below for some help on the topic. --- Steve
