Greetings --
The operating systems are pretty much irrelevant. (I've never
even heard the term "DIMM allocation requirements" as applied to a
Microsoft OS.) However, it is absolutely essential that any RAM
module(s) be fully compatible with both the motherboard _and_ any
other RAM module(s) already in the system. Additionally, there are
sometimes jumper switches on older motherboards that need to be reset
for the new RAM configuration. Consult your PC/motherboard's manual
for specific RAM types that are acceptable, and any configuration
requirements. Also, it's important to bear in mind that Win2K is much
more sensitive to defective or sub-standard hardware, particularly
RAM, than is Win98.

In Win98SE the DIMM's are limited to 256MBs with a total of 512MBs.
What are the DIMM allocation requirements for W2K Pro. I am running a
dual-boot machine using DDR266. It has Win98SE and W2K Pro. I need
to satisfy Win98SE's DIMM requirements. That can be done when I have
atleast 256MBs in each of the 2 DIMMs I'm using. However, can I
satisfy W2K's requirements if I put 512MBs in each of the 2 DIMMs? I
do not want to max out the 2 DIMM s with 1GB each. This MOBO and CPU
are going to be replaced in early to mid 2004 if I can afford to do
so. The new machine will use Dual DDR400 or 500. I presently need
more memory for the games I play.
