Hi !
I have an ASRock motherboard with 2 DDR DIMM slots. It says in the manual that :-
PC3200 (DDR400) for 1 DDR DIMM slot. Max 1GB.
PC2100(DDR266)/PC2700(DDR333) for 2 DDR DIMM slots. Max 2GB.

I did have 2 sticks of memory (1 in each slot) which are both 256MB PC3200 DDR 400.

I have just bought a 1GB PC3200 DDR.

Question !

Can i put the 1GB in one slot and leave one of the other 256MB in the second slot ? Or would the second slot have to be either PC2100 or PC 2700 ?

Yes, you can ... it may even work, but at the slowest speed of the slowest ram. ;)

However, as Me__2001 said, it would be far better to just use the new Stick ... add another 1Gig later, exactly the same spec if possible, as money permits.

Thanks for that - I'll go with your suggestion and stick with the 1GB.

What exactly does the manual mean regarding the 2 slots ?
PC3200 (DDR400) for 1 DDR DIMM slot. Max 1GB.
PC2100(DDR266)/PC2700(DDR333) for 2 DDR DIMM slots. Max 2GB.

It means, you cannot have more than one stick @ 400 ... you can use 2 x 333 x 1Gb sticks ... so, dispite havin two slots, and me sayin you could add another stick, it seems that your MB won't work if you did. :(
