Question about dual channel

I have a s939 Biostar NF4UL-A9 mainboard. I hve 2 x 512MB
Corsair DDR400 DIMMs. Later, I'd like to add an extra 2GB to that for
a total of 3GB. Can I add 2 x 1GB DDR400 DIMMs, and still have dual
channel, or would I either have to add 2 x 512MB for only 2GB total,
or do away with the 2 x 512MB DIMMs I have now, and fill all the slots
with 1GB DIMMs for a total of 4GB. I'd rather not have to spend for
another 1GB.

Yes. Dual channel is in pairs. You just have to make sure that the "pairs"
are in the right slots. Read the manual. But you might have to put one
pair in slot 1 and 3 and one pair in slot 2 and 4. (for example) -Dave
