W2k blue screen

I need some help on this blue screen message. I think it was due to a virus.
Here is the stop message.

Stop: 0x00000050 (0xc103e284, 0x00000000, 0x8049B21B, 0x00000000)
Page fault in non paged area
address 8049b21b base at 80400000,
Date stamp 4077db83- ntoskrnl.exe

I can't use any of the Advanced options because it brings me right back to
the blue screen. Is the OS hosed or maybe just the MBR. I would like to save
the drive if I could because there is some programs I need to get. Can I save
the drive?

Thanks,
Mike

This may help. Almost always a hardware and or driver issue.

This is where I'm at right now. I tested the hard drive with it's diagnostic
software and it reported good. I replaced the system ram and still got the
blue screen with the same stop messages. I would like to try and save the
disk long enough to get my e-mail, contacts, and some other programs off the
drive. If I try the repair option, will I lose my data that I need to get?
Can I run the chkdsk/p to try and fix the problem also? Are there any other
options I have in which I can save the data?

You can run chkdsk C: /F

CHKDSK [volume[[path]filename]]] [/F] [/V] [/R] [/X] [/I] [/C] [/L[:size]]

volume Specifies the drive letter (followed by a colon),
mount point, or volume name.
filename FAT/FAT32 only: Specifies the files to check for
fragmentation.
/F Fixes errors on the disk.
/V On FAT/FAT32: Displays the full path and name of every file
on the disk.
On NTFS: Displays cleanup messages if any.
/R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information
(implies /F).
/L:size NTFS only: Changes the log file size to the specified number
of kilobytes. If size is not specified, displays current
size.
/X Forces the volume to dismount first if necessary.
All opened handles to the volume would then be invalid
(implies /F).
/I NTFS only: Performs a less vigorous check of index entries.
/C NTFS only: Skips checking of cycles within the folder
structure.

The /I or /C switch reduces the amount of time required to run Chkdsk by
skipping certain checks of the volume.

You can do a manual repair, tip 2039 in the 'Tips & Tricks' at
http://www.jsiinc.com, followed by reapplication of you Service Pack and
hotfixes. This will NOT destroy your data.

This is where I'm at right now. I tested the hard drive with it's diagnostic
software and it reported good. I replaced the system ram and still got the
blue screen with the same stop messages. I would like to try and save the

Could not run the chkdsk c: /f. I got the parameter is not valid. I tried
different combinations with the same result. What I would like to confirm is
if I choose the "r" option in the emergency repair process, I will get an
option to do a manual repair. That repair process will only repair the system
files that are missing, corrupt or damaged. What I need most is my e-mail
contacts, e-mail messages and folders that I created in Outlook Express. I
need to make sure that these will not be deleted. If they might, how would I
pull them off to save them? I can take the drive out and put it as a slave on
another computer if need be, but would like to repair it if possible.
Thanks,
Mike

I would like to try and save the
disk long enough to get my e-mail, contacts, and some other programs off the
drive. If I try the repair option, will I lose my data that I need to get?
Can I run the chkdsk/p to try and fix the problem also? Are there any other
options I have in which I can save the data?

I need some help on this blue screen message. I think it was due to a virus.
Here is the stop message.

Stop: 0x00000050 (0xc103e284, 0x00000000, 0x8049B21B, 0x00000000)
Page fault in non paged area
address 8049b21b base at 80400000,
Date stamp 4077db83- ntoskrnl.exe

I can't use any of the Advanced options because it brings me right back to
the blue screen. Is the OS hosed or maybe just the MBR. I would like to save
the drive if I could because there is some programs I need to get. Can I save
the drive?

Thanks,
Mike

I'm currently running windows XP pro and all updates up been downloaded. I
havent installed any new software and.or hardware for months. Out of the clear
blue ... just about a week ago I started receiving the below message. I
tried System Restore and all was fine for three days and then bingo the error
message came back. The error message only occurs in the morning during
start-up, I can
restart fine, run the rest of the day 12 -15 hours no problem, its only in
the morning
when I start after the computer has been off for 5 -6 hours.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage
to your computer.

The problem seems to be caused by the following file:
win32k.sys PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON PAGER_ AREA

If this is the first time you’ve seen this stop error screen restart your
computer. If this
screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If
this is a new
installation ask your hardware of software manufacturer for any windows
updates you
might need.

If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or
software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you
need to use
Safe Mode to remove or disable components, press F8 to select Advanced start
up
options and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:

*** STOP: 0X00000050 (0XFFFED485, 0X00000001, 0X8F829739, 0X00000000)

*** win32k.sys – Address BF829739 base at BF800000, Datestamp 43446a58
