Since a few days, a PC running Y2K with SP4 and all
latest hotfix packs, does not boot any more.
The logon screen is shown, and after the logon a blank
screen appears.
CTRL+ALT+DEL does work and checking the processes,
Explorer is not active.
Checked on Knowledge base, found article 256194, but this
seems not to apply in this case.
Same problem starting in Safe Mode, Revert to last known
config does not fix the problem.
Reïnstall SP4 with no success.

Has anyone got an idee?
I prefere not to reïnstall from scratch.

Thanks

Have you tried to launch Explorer from Task Manager? If so, what happens?
Did you make any changes, installing or uninstalling software, updates,
etc., just before the problem started? Could be a damaged shell file, virus,
or other cause.
