W2003 hp dj 3820 netgear PS110 problem printing

I have installed the (latest, I think) software for the HP deskjet 3820
printer on a Windows Server 2003 machine. The printer itself is connected to
the network via a Netgear PS110 print server.

It does not print. Selecting Print Test Page from the Server results in a
blank sheet being ejected.

There is nothing wrong with the printer, or the PS110 or the software. It
just seems to be the W2003 installation. Other printers on the network print
fine from the W2003 server

Any advice would be appreciated

According to NetGear, if the device is configured for bi-directional
communication you will need to reconfigure.

You need a print server if more than one computer needs to access a printer,
or if a computer needs to access more than one printer. The server is easy
for novice users to install provided default setups are used.

The print server supports Hewlett-Packard, Canon, Epson, and other major
parallel printers. The bidirectional function and spooler manager may need
to be disabled for the printer to work properly. "Bi-directional" means
two-way communication so a printer can report physical status such as being
offline or out of paper.

a.. The print server works best when the bi-directional function is
disabled. Do this through the Printer Properties in Windows or through the
printer's own software.
b.. The print server only works properly in Windows 2000 if firmware is
loaded on the print server.
c.. The print server uses NetBIOS name resolution. The name can be no
longer than 15 characters according to NetBIOS standards.
d.. If computer performance drops while printing, check your computer's
print spooling settings. Information about the settings comes with your
operating system.
e.. The print server does not support scanners and other devices.
