Joe

I realise that this is an XP group but thought I may get an answer from some
nice people.

I have a friend using a 98SE machine, when it is booting up it get to a
wallpaper, up comes a message:

Accessibility Error

Could not load the enable2.vxd module

When you click on the OK button the load up continues and the wallpaper
changes and all seems to be OK then.

I have ran scanreg /opt /fix in MS-DOS and also ran SFC but it doesn't
report anything as missing.

Any suggestions please people???

Hi Joe,

Use the SFC "extract a single file" option to replace the existing
enable2.vxd file in the \windows\system folder. See this page for details on
extracting single system files from the Win98 CD or cab files:

http://users.westelcom.com/rogersr/sfc.htm#1pp

Either that or delete the subkey that references it from this key in the
system registry:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD

Try the microsoft.public.win98.gen_discussion group

G'day Rick and others,

I have tried to follow what you said, but it just wouldn't work for me. I
tried to do what you said in the registry with this
" HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD " but I was confused as to what
H_Key it was supposed to be in.

So that led me to try to extract the file using SFC but again I could not
find the enable2.vxd module. Can you tell me exactly what I should have been
typing in there to find it, as no matter what I put in there it would not
find it on the hard drive or the Windows 98SE CD.

Failing all else would it be possible for someone to send me that file and
simple instructions how to copy it into her computer?

Many thanks for your time and patience.

Rick, could I ask you to please send that again as I had a bit in my return
address for the spammers and I forgot to put that on the siggy. It is clear
at the moment if you would like to resend.

Hi Joe,

WIll just post it here. You had asked re: HKLM, that is:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

You need to expand the branches of the registry starting with this one by
clicking the + signs to reach this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VXD

Then, look in the keys below this level for the one that references
enable2.vxd, click on it and delete it. Close the registry editor. When he
reboots, the error should no longer occur.

Thanks very much Rick, greatly appreciated.

I will report back later on the success or otherwise, success I hope.

You need to get this over to a Windows 98 group. This one is on Windows
XP which works in an entirely different way and advice is liable to get
either itself or you in a total tangle
