VueScan 8.1.29 and slide image preview

Hello all,
I just updated VueScan from 7.6.84. I seem to have some trouble getting
the scanner to be recognised by the software at first start up. It
appears to be a problem if the software is set to scan a slide. Setting
the scan type to Flatbe gets the scanner noticed. Preview scan is very
slow. The lamp warmup appears to take about 2 minutes which is not
really necessary and I have not sen this with Epson's software or
Silverfast. The slide preview scan does not generate a preview but a
reflective preview does show up. I have an Epson Perfection 4870 photo
scanner and it is run (and has been running) from a G4 1.33 powerbook
CPU with 2GB RAM. I am using OS X 10.3.7. All of my other applications
seems to run without difficulty.

Any thoughts would be helpful and received with thanks.

Try removing *all* the vuescan.ini files and then restart the
program.

That did the trick. Thanks a million. :) One oddity remains... when
starting the program, the text appears to be very small (unreadable at
what I judge to be about 2 point in size) but it resumes its normal
size if I specify a parameter from any of the tabbed items.
