Vuescan Microtek i900 Silverfast

I have used Vuescan with my Minolta Dimage Dual Scan II film scanner
for 2 years, and my Epson Perfection 2400 flatbed scanner for a bit
less. I like it.

I now have a new Microtek i900 flatbed/film scanner, which came with
Silverfast 6 AI. I will be using it to scan 8x10 and 5x8 B&W
negatives.

Should I install Silverfast? How is it different than Vuescan? I know
I need to install the Microtek software to get the proper twain
drivers for Vuescan, but should I bother with anything else?

Hi Don,

Silverfast is simply another scanning program that is similiar to
Vuescan and ScanWizard Pro, the software that came with your scanner.
It comes down to what you yourself like. If we polled 100 people I
would bet that the majority would use Silverfast if given the option,
but quite a few others, particularly Mac users would use Vuescan.
Still others would use the ScanWizard Pro software as they may have
some familiarity with it. Try them out and see which you like
