vti_cnf subfolder of images folder

Does anyone know the purpose of the _vti_cnf subfolder,
created automatically in the images folder? What prompts
it's creation?. Im working on a website now where this
folder is appearing and im not exactly sure how it got
there!

This is where FrontPage stores information about each page
in your Web. If, for example, you have a file named
images/iguana.jpg, FrontPage will save information about
that file in a text file named images/_vti_cnt/iguana.jpg.
