VSFilter.dll

I am complete XP and puter dunderhead. But when running a photo app and
trying to load a number of photos from a directory it begins to load them and
then shuts down almost immediately with the following Microsoft error report
which I send off but never get answered. AppName: {NAME}.exe AppVer:
7.0.8.0 ModName: vsfilter.dll ModVer: 1.0.1.2 Offset: 000218a2. What on earth
does this gibberish mean? Where do I look for the problem? I think
vsfilter.dll is part of WinMedia Player but other than grabbing subtitles
that may be in play what is its role in the problem? I know that some earlier
versions of vsfilter were problematic but what is going on here? The puter
has Photoshop on it which does produce effects in some web-accessing programs
like Netobjects but this is pure local machine stuff. Any smart people out
there?

If this can help, I have XP pro with SP2.
I did a search (including system files and hidden files) and there is no
vsfilter.dll file on my system.
I suspect this file is with one of your application. I would search for it
and then check the app.

Thx! That's what I run. The VS filter is there as you suggest probably
because the app installed it. But the only things I can think of are
corrupted vsfilter.dll or bad RAM or a bogus vsfilter (malware). Doubt bad
CPU or hard drive since other apps work fine.
