vpn remote desktop

Do i have to enable vpn when i use RDC?
I did not enable vpn, but it works fine over the internet.
Or do i have a security problem now?

Remote Desktop has the same encryption as a VPN link. With that said, Remote Desktop through a VPN
tunnel means only opening one port in a firewall versus two or more, ie. one for VPN and one or more
for Remote Desktop sessions depending on how many PCs you need to access via RD. The added benefit
is you can access multiple PCs running Remote Desktop without opening a port for each PC.
