VPN not browsing network by name

I have a route finder 660VPN. I am connecting to my
network and trying to access shares on my network via the
unc path. If I put the name in there, it doesn't work.
If I put the Ip in there it does work. Does anyone know
what could be wrong. I thought a VPN should be able to
browse a network.

thanks in advance

Browsing doesn't automatically work, and neither does name resolution.

How are names resolved on the LAN you connect to? If they use DNS or
WINS, the client can use these. Check that the client has the correct IP
address for the nameserver (and the correct DNS suffix). If the LAN you
connect to relies on broadcasts, you will need to add a HOSTS or LMHOSTS
file to the client, with entries for any machines on the LAN you want to
"see" by name. Remote clients (RAS or VPN) do not send or receive LAN
broadcasts.
