Hi All,

I am testing W2K3 SBS but having problems setting up a VPN

Specs:
OS: SBS2003
NIC#1 : 10.0.0.101 - Internet
NIC#2 : 10.0.0.1002 - Internal Network

Router has the UDP & TCP ports - 500, 1701, 1723 ports
forwarded to 10.0.0.101, also GRE

I've been through the RAS setup wizard as described on
smallbizserver.net
(http://www.smallbizserver.net/Default.aspx?tabid=127)

Still get error 800

I'm lost ... any advice would be greatly recieved

thanks in advance

Jay

You cannot run the internal and external NIC in the same IP subnet. RRAS
is a router, and should have its NICs in different subnets.

If you only want to run it as a remote access server, it only needs one
NIC if you are on a private network. The router acts as your public
interface.

Before you try connecting from a remote client, make sure you can
connect from a LAN client. This will let you debug your config locally.

Error 800 is s pretty useless diagnostic. It just means the connection
failed. Set you client to use PPTP rather than Automatic to get a more
specific message.

Bill,

Many thanks for your advice, that makes sense, I'll have a
play arround and let you know how I get on.

When I set up a VPN connection with only one NIC I
suceded, my reason for adding a second NIC was that I had
problems with internet connections (the router is an ADSL
router providing both Internet Access and occational VPN
access) With clients with dynamic IP's I only get page
cannot be displayed, I could get an internet connection by
having clients with a static IP, but then it caused
problems accessing the intranet (can't recall exactly what
happened - I think it kept prompting for username &
passwords)

With 2 NIC's I have loverly internet/intranet access but
no VPN LOL

Incedently, I did try a VPN connection from a LAN client,
got Error 619 - another problem looming I think! I'll
cross that bridge when I get to it - but in the mean time
if anyone does have any suggestions, please let me know

Kind regards,

Jay
