Don Longan

I have a client with a win2000 sp2 server setup with AD.
Using a linksys router to the internet. The vpn
connections worked fine in the past, but something has
changed. Now when we attempt an connection (winxp
clients) we get the following error:

Error 778: It was not possible to verify the identity of
the server.

Searched knowledge base but no luck on getting more info.

I have reviewed the event logs on both the server and
clients but no indication of any type of failure.

My suspections are something with AD settings/policies

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thought it to be important to mention we are using basic
pptp connections.

Hi Don,

Server identity can be verified using Certificates. Your Server should have
a certificate and the Certificate Authority (CA) who issued it should be
trusted by the client. So, if you want to verify the identity of the server,
1. Install a certificate on the server from any CA
2. Put that CA in the Client's Trusted Root CA

Or if you dont want to verify the server identity:
1. Go to Properties of the interface
2. Security
3. Advanced security settings
4. Use EAP for authentication - Properties
5. Uncheck the box for Verify Server Identity

Thanks,
Priya.
