VPN connection interferes with Outlook Express

I have set up a VPN connection from my home computer (XP Home sp2 on a cable
modem) to my work computer (XPPro sp2) and it works beautifully. However,
as long as it's connected, Outlook Express (6) on my home computer cannot
find the mail server.

The OE Tasks window reads: "Tasks: Check for new messages on Shawmail,
Status: Failed, Connection: TLC..." (the name of my vpn connection). I
can't find any way to tell it to use the normal Local Area Connection (the
cable modem) and ignore the VPN. However, Internet Explorer works just
fine. As soon as I disconnect the VPN, OE works fine too!

The VPN client is using remote gateway as default gateway and the remote gateway doesn't allow your access the internet.

Ohhhh, that works like a hot damn!
Funny that something so basic as connecting to your office network should require digging down and changing such an obscure setting to keep your home email working!
Maybe the Microsoft VPN setup wizard needs a little more work?
