VPN - client connecting via dialup, not from broadband connection

Hello,

I'm a using Win 2000 Server, which is my PDC as well as my VPN RAS server. I have VPN setup on this server and I see inconsistent behavior when accessing the VPN through a dial up connection via an ISP (it works correctly) and accessing the VPN through a broadband connection (it doesn’t work). The broadband user gets as far as verifying username and password box, and then they receive a message stating that the username and password could not be validated.

I have tested it on my laptop (Dell M60) and I’m able to duplicate the problems. Accessing the VPN through a dialup connects successfully to the VPN. However the VPN connection through the broadband connection doesn’t connect successfully.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
David

what's the error code? also make sure you have correct ports open for VPN
access.

Robert,

Thanks for the reply. I found the problem. The encryption settings were not consistent between client computers.

Thanks again,
David

I seem to have spoken too soon. When connecting from the broadband connection
at home, I receive an error 621 and sometimes an error 721, however I was
able to get in one time with the exact same settings in the client.

The client routers we are using are Linksys wireless G and are set to allow
PPTP pass through.

The piece that confuses me is that if I use dial up then connect the VPN it
works every time.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
David
