VPN Access

I

Ian Pendlebury

I want to create a IPSec/L2TP connection so that clients
can connect over the Web.

I can't find where to put the pre-shared key!!

TIA

By default, Windows 2000 automatically creates an
IPSec policy to be used with L2TP/IPSec connections that requires a
certificate for Internet Key Exchange (IKE) authentication. If you want to
use preshared keys instead you need to disable this policy and create a new
one.

240262 How to Configure a L2TP/IPSec Connection Using Pre-shared Key
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=240262

Note: Although Microsoft does not support or recommend the use of a preshare
key for IKE authentication on remote access L2TP/IPSec client connections
(should be used for testing only), Windows 2000 is compliant with IKE RFC
2409 and provides a way to implement it. L2TP/IPSec gateway-to-gateway VPN
implementations by using a preshared key for IKE authentication are
supported.

Hi Ian,

On the server
1) run rrasmgmt.msc
2) right click on the server name and goto properties
3) On the Security tab you'll find the "Allow custom IPSec policy for L2tp
connection" checkbox

Thanks
Srinidhi

Srinidhi,

Thanks for the reply.

I've seen this on another Server, but on my server there
is just the grey space where it ought to be. So how do I
make it visible?

Ian

Hi Ian,

It is visible on Windows server 2003.
I believe you have a Windows 2000 machine and Marc's reply should help you.
