If your speakers are plugged in and you actually have a volume control in
Windows you can control (means you have a driver installed) and the speakers
are plugged into the correct hole in the correct sound card (Many people
with New Dells might actually have two sound cards, one in the motherboard,
one added on.) and the speakers are powered up and you get no sound even
from headphones if plugged in the same way (assuming again all is correct)
then I suggest you figure out which sound card you have, uninstall your
sound card drivers, go to the web page of the manufacturer of said sound
card, get the latest Windows XP drivers, install them and see if that helps.
