Volume Quotas showing on Student machines

We are running Windows SS2003 with 700Gb for student storage. The student
volume has a quota of 200Mb per user.

However, when students map the location (a deep mapping 1 level below the
share) it does not show them their quota level but some higher level of
space left.

How can we make it so that the students see the 200Mb as their mapped drive
size?

Maybe it doesn't make sense what I'm saying.
But I'll say it anyway :-)
Could it be that the students are the owner of only the share itself and not
the folders it contains?
I'm not an expert on quota's but to me it looks like this is the problem.

Yes, it makes sense.

The students are owners of only their folders under the share.
