Volume Licensing XP is asking for activation

Hi,
I have a customer who uses RIS to distribute XP out to his
workstations.
Now he has volume licensing for all of his Microsoft Products
including Windows XP. Even his licensing certificate/information says
he is Volume Licensed.
But when he installs XP onto a PC, XP asks to be activated. So when
he creates his RIS images, the imaged PCs are all asking for activation
as well. Now he has a 60 day grace period, but if he waits two months
or needs to redeploy an image 2 months later. That 60 days is left with
0 days on the image, forcing to activation before use of image as
normal.
This is really no problem, but it's a bit of a pain.
I thought it was only with Retail licensing that activation occurred
not Volume Licensing. I know in Sysprep you can set it to not reset
the activation. But we couldn't see any same option in risrep.
I have advised him to call Microsoft Support and see how his
licensing is setup. But in the mean time, I thought I would ask here
just in case something isn't quite right.

Thanks,
Jim Propert.

Hi Jim,

Make sure that you create the images from the Volume Licensing installation
material.
Each type of intsallation material is slightly different especially VL and
OEM

One must use the Volume License Windows XP CD to create
the sysprep image. It appears your customer did not do this.
