Volume icon disappeared from the taskbar

The volume icon disappeared from the taskbar and I cannot
recover it either from the taskbar properties or from
control panel. When I try to tick "place a volume icon
in the taskbar" from "sounds,speech and audio devices
properties" window, a message that says this action is
impossible, because the volume control program has not
been installed.
What I have to do

Install your soundcard driver that came with your PC
It should be on a CD, maybe called utilities or installed drivers, etc.
