volume control

In windows 2000 professional, I have a volume control icon in the
system tray, and when I click on it, I get the vertical sliding volume
control bar as I should, and when I click on the bar I get a sound in
the speaker as I should. However, as I click and drag the bar higher
or lower, the volume does not change. The volume control within
windows media player works, but not the volume control in the system
tray. What could be causing this?

Did I hear someone say to try updating the audio driver? Eh? Well,
that's what I just did and it worked. I should have thought of that
before posting the question. Sorry.
