Volume control option

I dont have the volume control option in my task bar.
When I go to the audio properties in the control panel &
click on "Place volume icon in the taskbar" it says that
that option is not installed & I need to install it from
the add/remove programs in the control panel. When I go
to the add/remove programs, it does not show
the "multimedia" option in which i can select the volume
control option. Where can I find the multimedia
properties where I can select the volume control option
in Windows XP. PLS HELP.....
