Volume Control is gone

A friend of mine's computer no longer has volume control. When he selects it through All Programs - Accesories - Entertainment - Volume Control, a message states "There are no active mixer devices available. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware" Where would he get the driver for the volume control? He is running Windows XP home. Thanks in advance

Hi,
Extract a new copy of Sndvol32.exe from the Windows
XP CD to the system_root \System32 folder
Reinstall or update sound card drivers. Reboot and try the sound again.
