Voice recording onto my computer?

When I'm studying I've found it helpful to record the material onto a tape
and listen to it while I do home chores, walk, etc. I thought it would be
easier to record it onto the computer and then I could edit it more easily,
maybe add music and not worry about the walkman eating the tape and having to
do it again.
I was told that XP has a program for this....I have no idea what the program
would be called and the only recording software I found seems to be 15
seconds long.
Help
Thank you, Z

It's called the sound recorder
Start | Run <type in> sndrec32 <enter>
but 60 seconds is all you can record without hacking it.

Your better off finding a third party recorder
Search http://sourceforge.net/ and see what's available

I would'nt waste my time with the 3rd party junk, simply go to WM home page,
downloads,scroll to WM encoder 9 series,download & install.In the encoder,
simply select capture audio/video,audio.The encoder is limited time wise only
to the amount available on youre hd....Or cd

Then you are the one losing out, Audacity is far superior for editing than
anything WME has to offer.

The windows program is sndrec32.exe, usually located in C:\WINDOWS\system32.
You will usually need to make a shortcut on the desktop.
To make longer recordings, you start by making a blank recording of the
maximum length allowed, and save it. Next you load the blank recording. You
can then then record silence for an additional length of time. Save the
extended length file. You repeat this until you have a file length that you
need. Then you make a copy of the blank extended length file. and record
whatever on it.
Of course, you are free to buy an audio recording application, or try to
find a free one on the net.
