VM Player can't access network

B

latest version of VM Player -- won't allow it to access Internet -- worked
fine under XP -- I'm ASSUMING it has to do with better security and not
allowing unknown connections

right clicking the network icon in the taskbar shows two connections --
Network (Private Network) which has Access = local and internet and
Connection = local area connection and ALSO Unidentified Network (Public
Network), Access = Local Only and Connections Local Area Connection 2 and
Local Area Connection 3 -- under "Details" for both of them, they show
VMWare info

I remember this kind of listing for the VMWare Virtual connections under XP,
but I didn't have to DO anything to make them "live" -- again, I'm thinking
that this is security based so that "backdoor" networks can't be installed
without one's knowledge

I DID see that if I drilled down in the Properties button for both
Connection #2 and # 3, there are two UN-checked boxes for what items each
connection uses -- one called Virtual Machine Network Services and the other
one VMWare Bridge Protocol -- should I CHECK both of these?

I actually gambled and did CHECK those boxes for both connections -- NO JOY

what ELSE is needed? seems like it's having a problem getting an IP
address??

Jeff:

Could you help me with the "drill down" to find the screen where you made
this entry? Also, when you do so, what do YOU see for the VMWare connection.
What I CURRENTLY see in the taskbar is "unidentified network" which has
limited connectivity, as opposed to the REAL network, which shows local AND
internet access

Sure,
In VMware itself, the network settings- when you set up a machine- I don't
have it installed currently; because I'm using Virtual PC 2007 by MSFT.
It's in VMware also-network settings.
I used VMware Workstation 5.5; not the player though.
It's basically in options in VMware;
But both VMware and VPC2007 have network settings themselves; not in the
host.
If ya want to try Virtual PC 2007 from MSFT; it's free. Go to
www.microsoft.com/connect .
If you don't have a "Live" i.d. just sign up for one; and sign in and you
should see Virtual PC 2007 in available programs.
For VMware;since I'm not running it right now; I don't remember.
Sorry couldn't help more; but it's possible cuz i did it.
