visual studio 6 service pack installation on vista

I just installed vs6 but then wanted to install sp5 and got the message
that it needs to have MDAC version 2.5 or later installed first. Tried
to install this from the service pack files and was told it is already
installed. So retried the sp and still get the same message. I do not
want to install sp6 before anyone suggests that.

Thanks for the information.

I think the reason Microsoft is not supporting fixing Vista to allow an
install of Service Pack 5 is that Service Pack 6 will install.

I know a lot of guys did not like Service Pack 6, but I have noticed any
problem with it yet.

It is too long ago for me to remember just what the issues were but
there were issues that were bad enough. Do a google search through the
vb groups and you will find out why. But if you are not using VB then
this may not apply. The thing is that if you do have problems with it
then it is a bugger to remove. As I recall I had to uninstall the whole
of VS6 and then reinstall and add SP5...
