Visual C++ Runtime Library error Outlook 2k

I have Outlook 2k on Win2k and today I started getting this error when I try
to open a message or start a new one.
Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

Runtime Error!
Program:C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Outlook.exe
abnormal program termination

Our IT department is stumped. They tried detect and repair, uninstalling /
reinstalling. Didn't work.

Any ideas?

This seems to be a common problem. Please see my post
today (06-04-04) at 10:22 am. Someone else that replied
to my post was having the same problem too. So, if you
hear anything, then please let me know, and I will do the
same too.

Thanks,

I fixed the problem. Well, the problem got fixed but I really didn't do
anything.
Here's what I did.
I found some references to Mcfee virus software issues on the web so I
updated that.
When I restarted my computer it started working again.

Since my version of Office XP Professional (with Outlook)
is an "OEM" version (i.e., it came preinstalled on my
computer at the time of purchase), I decided to call
Gateway and see if they could help me out with my Outlook
Runtime problem. This is what the Gateway Helpline told
me to do:

1. Launch Outlook
2. Click on "Tools" on the menu bar
3. Click on "Options" from the drop down list
4. Click the "Other" tab
5. Click on "Advanced Options.." under the General
Section
6. Click on "Add-In Manager.."
7. Uncheck the box titled "Exchange Extensions
property page"
8. Then, click on "Okay"

This seems to have worked. Does anyone else have any
experience with this?

Thanks,
Mike Neely

I've read this on several different sites. It seams to be for XP. I tried
it but (Not running XP) it didn't work.

Not sure if this will help but I got rid of the problem by
uninstalling Plaxo. It is a com add-in. I noticed that when I tried to
remove it as a com add-in it would give me the error. tools-> options
-> other -> Advanced Options -> COM Add-ins.
