Vista??

Ok, I have been using vista for a few weeks now and even updated the system
with the 2 performance patches from Microsoft but still can not get it to
work as XP does.

Sometimes it takes upto 10 seconds to do anything and when I try doing
something else it says "not responding", so I leave it and then it comes
right, I've honestly given up on Vista and am going back to XP, at least XP
is mature enough to screw with it.

I'll wait until SP-1 is released for Vista and see how that works out, it
could be that I am using a 4 year old system with a 875P chipset but that
shouldn't make any difference, my new system will be arriving next week
which is a 975X chipset and I will give it a go for a few weeks and if it is
the still the same then I am moving back to XP.

There are still a few annoying bugs in Vista and hope the Service Pack 1
will fix these, if not then Vista will become a dead horse if you ask me, I
am still selling desktop systems with XP as I am afraid I will get many
calls about it not working as it should do, but then again XP has it's own
faults, I've sold laptops to customers with Vista installed as this is all
you can get now, 8 out of 12 customers who has purchased these are ringing
me all the time about problems.

Sorry about the bad publicity

Disable some of the extra services and features (e.g. tablet services /
add-ins are on) assuming you have ultimate ...

things are running well on my 875p just as well as my 955bx and 975bx ..
just turn some stuff off :)

There is no doubt that Vista requires a PC with reasonable good specs, and it
is most probably stated that the min specs (as stated by MS) are the very
minimum requirements and many PC manufacturers are installing Vista on PC
which are really only suited for XP.
Over the past few of month I have had to tweak and modify various PC/Laptops
to run and work with Vista to an acceptable level.
Software providers have not adapted programs to be of compatible standards
for Vista and to many users expect older programs which run great on previous
OS (ME, 2000, & XP. etc.) to work the same, unfortunately they may not.
I like you am looking forward to SP1, I have say that I have few if any
problems with Vista, we have to remember that XP has had 6 yrs to work out
it's problems.
I hope we do not have to wait another 6 yrs!!!!!!!

Hi,
My Vista Home Premium works fine.
The only problem i have is that my scanner HP4570c doesn't work (the reason
seems to be that i installed first the CD ... HP is trying to help me).
I have no experience with XP as i was using till now ME (a package which is
reported as one of the worst).
My ME is still now working very fine and fast but on weekly basis i perform
maintenance on it (defragmentation, removing temporary internet files,
tmp-files and so on).
Further i am using only third-party systemprograms when really necessary (on
ME for instance ZoneAlarm)

On my Vista i follow the same strategy and my expericence is very good.
I do not understand why a lot of people refuse to use the Windows Defender,
the builded in defragmentation tool etc. in my view that all is looking for
problem.
Further it is clear that the Norton antivirus is creating problems so do not
use it, that advice i did receive already for years on the forums - AVG(i do
use it ) and AVAST seems also ok.

Vista is great - but i agree with the experts here that the correct hardware
is very important.
When i bought my new PC (laptop) it had to have the Aero-function (not that
i was wild of it ) but so i was sure that i had the optimal hardware.

Huib
