re-installing vista

P

puthp

hi,

i bought a vista-ready PC 18 months ago, and have been using XP since then.
but when vista came out, as part of agreement when i bought my PC i was sent
a vista CD.

i upgraded to vista a few weeks ago, but i've been having problems with
anti-virus softwares, i've tried about 5 now (separately) and they all create
problems with IE

anyway, since then i keep now getting error messages, things like "host
process not responding so it is shutting down" and lots of other things not
responding so shutting down.

so i wanna reset my PC to way it was a few weeks ago when i had fresh
installed vista... can i do that with these upgrade CD's? (they sent me 2, 1
with drivers and 1 from MS with vista on it). thanks

Hi,

Most of those disks are recovery software that wipes the drive and replaces
it with a fresh image though there are exceptions. You'd have to check with
the individual manufacturer on the capability of the one you have.

You haven't mentioned the names of the 5 anti-virus software packages that
you tried. I'm assuming that at least three of them were freeware; and most
likely when you had problems with them, you tried to uninstall them and
replace them with other freeware. You may be having problems now with the
current anti-virus software because one or more of the other anti-virus
software did not uninstall properly therefore causing conflicts. When you get
your OS stable I'd suggest that you purchase a quality anti-malware software
package and use the free support that comes with it.
