I did your normal shut down from start menu, and Vista (Home Premium 32-bit)
just stayed on the shut down screen; any event id's I can look at to clue me
in?

Have you updated all your device drivers? Its possible you could need a BIOS
update (not detrimental), but in some cases its a possibility.

Does the uphclean.exe work with Vista? This was a continuing problem on
many XP computers that cleaning the user hive took care of.

Q

Yes all drivers and BIOS updated - that's almost automatic for me depending
on what
the latest versions do.

Have you installed any devices or applications lately that might have
triggered this problem? Was this an upgrade or clean install/pre-loaded
install of Vista? If its pre-loaded, you might want to take it back to the
place of purchase if the system is still under warranty and let them check
it out for you.

Thanks for the suggestions. However my original post asked what event ID's
I can look at to help debug the problem, and none has answered that yet. The
event manager has a whole "Microsoft" folder now, and sure I can go through
each one of them, but I thought someone would have an idea.

You would expand system and any error messages there with a Red X stop sign
would indicate error messages.
