Vista won't load after bootup

Hi

I've just tried installing windows vista but after installing it and about
to run it for the first time, it gets into a "loop" as the comp keeps
resetting right after the "boot from CD/DVD press any key" message comes up
on bootup.
It will then reset itself back to the beginning and get to the same message
to reset itself again.

I've done a chkdsk and no problems were found and none of the options on the
vista dvd help either. I had to reinstall XP to get things to work again.

Any ideas on what is going wrong?

Thanks
Erik

Hi

Thanks for the reply but the upgrade advisor says that my system is fine
with vista. I still don't know what is going on so any other suggestions
would be helpful.

Thanks

I've also upgraded last night and had exactly the same looping problem - any
suggestions what to do? The upgrade advisor said my PC was fine, I even
tried booting from the DVD and ran the Start-up Repair option but that
firstly took ages to run and then says there are no problems....Help!

It may come down to that you'll have to wipe the machine out. If it takes
for you to install XP or whatever O/S you had on there before with a fresh
format of the HD, then you'll need to do that.

You just install the O/S and don't install anything else no SP, no
networking or nothing else. You then proceed to the Vista install.

Flat out, sometimes an upgrade over the top of an existing O/S can cause
problems, when there are somewhat two different O/S(s) involved.

I myself I will not do an upgrade, if possible. I'll just completely wipe
out the machine so everything is fresh.

I didn't come from Windows ME to Win 2K or Win 2k to XP with upgrades. I
just wiped the machine out and did fresh installs, so there would be no
problems.

I did do the upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Ultimate, but that was Vista
over Vista, and it ran like a champ with no problems.

I don't recall, but if that upgrade allows you to format the HD and install,
then wipeout the existing O/S.

Hi

I've got Vista to install... Finally..
I booted into the XP CD and went into repair mode, did a chkdsk /f and
chkdsk /r which fixes and recovers bad sectors and then went off to install
Vista again and it worked. Might want to try it or you can install XP then
do a Vista upgrade.

Regards
Erik
