Vista won't auto sleep after SP1

M

Max

I have three PCs in my house running Vista. Before installing SP1, all
of them would routinely go to sleep automatically, as per the power
management settings. Since installing SP1, they continue running
without ever going into sleep mode. I can still enter sleep mode
manually, which works fine, it's just the automatic sleep that won't
work.

Only software in common across all three machines (other than Vista)
is Office 2007 and Windows Live OneCare. Both were installed prior to
installing SP1.

Thanks for your help,
Max

Max,
I have same problem with my Vista machine. Power management was working
fine before SP1. I am also now having the problem with my monitor no longer
going to sleep and sometimes having a problem with the screen saver starting.

Does anybody know of a solutions yet?

Having the same problem here -- worked great before SP1. No settings
changed. Anyone have any ideas?

TRSCGA & Joe,

What motherboard (or motherboard chipset) are you using? Perhaps this
could be related to a specific BIOS or driver incompatibility with
SP1?

I'll post mine tonight, as I don't recall which chipset I'm using, and
I'm at work now, so I can't check.

Hrm, let's see -- It's an Asus P5N32-E SLI, running BIOS 1205.

Mine is the Intel P35 chipset, though my wife's computer is using an
nVidia chipset and is having the same symptoms, so probably that's not
the issue.

Had to delete old messages in the (probably fruitless) hope that my
pristine gmail acct won't get spammed...

Anyway, yeah, I'm having the same problem, everything was working
great before SP1 but now my PC will not auto-sleep. If I manually put
it to sleep, everything is completely fine. But when it wakes up in
the wee hours to perform my nightly backup, it just doesn't go back to
sleep.

My motherboard is an ASUS P5N32-E SLI, using Nvidia 680i architecture
and the Intel 775 socket something something.

Hope someone finds a solution.

Bob, thanks for trying to help. I've just tried all that and no dice.
Any other suggestions?

Go to Advance Power Settings.

Set hard drive to turn off a minute or 2 before sleep.

Set Hybrid and Hibernate modes to "Never/Off"

Under USB settings select "Disable"

Under Multimedia select "Allow ....."

Hmm. I've now gone through the whole process...it still does not seem
to be working. This is becoming very frustrating.

Huh. After rebooting a couple times, now everything's working fine.
Something in that final troubleshooting link seemed to do the
trick...or maybe I hadn't rebooted since installing SP1? Anyway,
thanks for your help!

Still no luck here. I tried the various suggestions to no avail. I
want to emphasize again that these machines had no difficulty
automatically sleeping before the installation of SP1, but have been
unable to sleep automatically ever since installing it. I did not make
any settings or software changes in between, so it seems like it was
something specifically about installing SP1 that broke the feature.
