Vista with Auto Cad?

R

Robert

I have ordered a HP d5000t ATX PC with Vista Business w/sp1 32 bit. It has
an Intel Q 9550 processor, 3 gb-800Mhz memory, 768MB Nvidia GeForce 9600GS
graphics and 500gb Sata 3gb hard drive. I intend installing autocad 2007.
Has anyone had any problems with Vista working with autocad, on a computer
having these componets?

Secondly, I had problems with IE 7 working on my old computer (xp pro sp2).
Is it possible to uninstall IE7? If you do will IE6 automatically take its
place?

Appreciate any comments or advise.

I haven't run autocad on that hardware, but in Vista IE7 is standard, you
can't remove it.

Not Me

Sorry, I have not used Autocad on Vista.
We have not ( and have no plans to) put any Vista machines on the LAN.
All the machines I use with Vista are either at home or ones I repair.
I do service calls/repairs as an independant contractor for a vendor that
handles warranty calls/installs, etc. for HP/Compaq among others.
The last call I had was to setup an PIV ID server and
workstations/scanners/card readers/writers for a Federal office building.
With all the rigamarole it takes just to get an ID badge, it's no wonder
they have such a hard time getting even half intelligent people to work for
the government.

Unless your version of Autocad specifically Made for Vista, I would do
several things during the install to attempt to make it work.
1) find the install file (setup.exe or such) on the CD/DVD, right click and
'run as admin'
2) install somewhere other than the default Program Files (I use C:\old
programs, but almost anywhere outside Program Files is better than in it)
3) install in XP compatibility mode

To be honest, you'd probably be better asking the vendor for the straight
dope on AutoCAD's compatibility with Vista. They must have that information
on their website somewhere.

I would suggest that you check Autocad/Vista compatibility with Autodesk.
There do appear to be some issues with Autocad 2007 on Vista, and the fixes
will come from Autodesk, not from Microsoft.
